Always Online is the new SecuROM among popular gaming so it seems even healthy criticism has become overblown. All I know is that at a time when Facebook's "social games" felt to be taking "social" a bit lightly I was asked to help design unobtrusive gameplay that gave added value to having a consistent connection while you play. As a macrocosm of city to city interaction to contain the microscopes where you build intricate, interwoven simulations I love this game more with each day. Here I describe the goals of region design, why it matters and the process by which it was discovered.
