I was originally pitched this game with a rough prototype so building and polishing a full cardboard prototype during predev allowed me to balance units, finalize powers and begin to mock up different ideas we had for level designs early in the project. This helped clarify the most fun aspects for prioritizing features versus their difficulty to accomplish. It also inspired much of what became the 3D world we later built.
